Rotten wood doesn't wait for a convenient time to become a problem. It just gets worse - and more expensive - the longer it sits. That's exactly what we were dealing with here. One of the porch posts had deteriorated so badly it was hollow straight through. The kind of damage that looks minor from a distance but tells a completely different story up close.

We pulled out the damaged pieces and replaced them with new material. No patching over the problem, no cosmetic cover-ups. When structural wood is that far gone, the only real fix is a clean swap. That's what we did.

Once the new material was in, we applied a clear stain finish to the posts. That step matters more than people realize. A clear stain soaks into the wood grain and helps seal it against moisture - which, in New Orleans, is pretty much a constant threat. It's the kind of protection that adds years to the life of the wood without hiding the natural look of it. We also freshened up the porch with paint to tie everything together and give it a clean, finished appearance.

The result is a porch that's solid where it counts and looks good doing it. The exposed beam structure, the wide covered deck, the ceiling fan overhead - it all works together as a functional outdoor space. But none of that matters if the bones are rotting underneath. Getting the structural stuff right first is always the move.

This is the kind of exterior renovation work we do regularly for homeowners across New Orleans. Rotted posts, damaged trim, worn surfaces - we handle it all. If your porch or any part of your exterior has been on your mind, that's usually a sign it's time to get someone out to take a look.
