Old porches in New Orleans take a beating. The heat, the humidity, the rain - it all adds up. And when the wood starts to go, it doesn't just look bad. It becomes a safety issue. That's exactly what we were dealing with here.

The original porch deck and stair framing had worn out to the point where it needed a full replacement - not a patch job. When we strip everything back to bare framing, we get a clear picture of what we're actually working with. That's when we make the call on how to do it right. In this case, that meant coming in with all pressure-treated lumber and adding extra framing throughout the structure to give it the support it needed.

Pressure-treated lumber is the right choice for outdoor builds in south Louisiana. It resists moisture, rot, and insects far better than untreated wood - which matters a lot in this climate. But the material is only part of the equation. The framing underneath has to be solid too. We spaced the joists properly and made sure every connection point was built to carry the load, not just look good from the outside.

The finished porch speaks for itself. Clean decking, solid railings, wide stairs - and a structure underneath that's built to last for years without issues. This homeowner can sit out on that porch without a second thought about whether it's going to hold up. That's the whole point.

We do this kind of exterior renovation work all across the New Orleans area. Whether it's a full porch replacement like this one or another structural rebuild, the approach is always the same - build it the way it should have been built the first time.
